Season 2017/18 - Opening Weeks

Wildcats 2s and Chieftains line up prior to their Division Two clash on Sunday evening, a match that the visitors won 13-4 (thanks to Black and Gold Army for the photo)

Last month saw the National Ice Hockey League get underway for the new season and I'll be blogging on the two South Divisions throughout the season.  First of all here are the results so far for the NIHL South One (Britton) Division:-

Saturday 9th September
Basingstoke Bison 4 Invicta Dynamos 0
Milton Keynes Thunder 5 Bracknell Bees 7

Sunday 10th September
Invicta Dynamos 2 Milton Keynes Thunder 3

Saturday 16th September
Swindon Wildcats 4 Milton Keynes Thunder 3
Cardiff Fire 1 Invicta Dynamos 4
Peterborough Phantoms 4 Bracknell Bees 2

Sunday 17th September
Invicta Dynamos 3 Swindon Wildcats 2
Milton Keynes Thunder 5 London Raiders 7
Streatham 9 Cardiff Fire 2

Saturday 23rd September
Cardiff Fire 0 Milton Keynes Thunder 6
Peterborough Phantoms 5 Streatham 2

Sunday 24th September
Bracknell Bees 11 Cardiff Fire 1
Milton Keynes Thunder 2 Peterborough Phantoms 5

Saturday 30th September
Swindon Wildcats 7 Invicta Dynamos 4
Peterborough Phantoms 13 Cardiff Fire 1

Sunday 1st October
Cardiff Fire 0 Peterborough Phantoms 10
Bracknell Bees 6 Milton Keynes Thunder 2
Streatham 1 Swindon Wildcats 2

After those results here is how the standings look:-
1. Peterborough Phantoms 10pts
2. Swindon Wildcats 7pts
3. Bracknell Bees 6pts
4. Milton Keynes Thunder 5pts
5. Invicta Dynamos 4pts
6. Basingstoke Bison 2pts
7. Streatham 2pts
8. London Raiders 2pts
9. Cardiff Fire 0pts

The Phantoms top the table with five wins from five whilst Fire are six defeats from six and have conceded 53 goals in those six as their start to the season has been a struggle.  The only other teams with 100% records are Bison and Raiders although those two have only played one game so far.

Below are the fixures for this weekend:-
Saturday 7th October
Bracknell Bees Vs Streatham
Swindon Wildcats Vs Cardiff Fire
Basingstoke Bison Vs London Raiders

Sunday 8th October
Invicta Dynamos Vs Basingstoke Bison
London Raiders Vs Swindon Wildcats
Cardiff Fire Vs Bracknell Bees
Streatham Vs Milton Keynes Thunder

Leaders Phantoms have a weekend off meaning Wildcats could go top if they win both their weekend games against Fire and Raiders.  Bees could also join the leaders at the top if they win both their weekend matchups against Streatham and Fire, whilst Bison and Raiders will look to keep their 100% records going too.  Fire, who have lost every game, travel to 2nd placed Wildcats before hosting 3rd placed Bees, meaning a tough weekend for them no doubt.

Right onto the NIHL South Two (Wilkinson) Division now:-
Sunday 10th September
Bristol Pitbulls 5 Slough Jets 4
Basingstoke Buffalo 0 Haringey Huskies 2s 5

Saturday 16th September
Invicta 1 Peterborough Phantoms 2s 6
Guildford 1 Oxford City Stars 7
Haringey Huskies 2s 8 Lee Valley Lions 7
Bracknell Hornets 10 Basingstoke Buffalo 3

Sunday 17th September
Lee Valley Lions 1 Bracknell Hornets 11
Oxford City Stars 7 Bristol Pitbulls 2

Saturday 23rd September
Cardiff Fire 2s 13 Slough Jets 5
Bristol Pitbulls 3 Peterborough Phantoms 2s 4
Invicta 5 Haringey Huskies 2s 6
Bracknell Hornets 9 Oxford City Stars 6
Basingstoke Buffalo 2 Solent Devils 4

Saturday 30th September
Haringey Huskies 2s 10 Swindon Wildcats 2s 2

Sunday 1st October
Lee Valley Lions 0 Guildford 2
Peterborough Phantoms 2s 3 Solent Devils 2
Oxford City Stars 8 Slough Jets 2
Basingstoke Buffalo 6 Invicta 3
Swindon Wildcats 2s 4 Chelmsford Chieftains 13

After those results here are the standings:-
1. Haringey Huskies 2s 8pts
2. Bracknell Hornets 6pts
3. Peterborough Phantoms 2s 6pts
4. Oxford City Stars 6pts
5. Solent Devils 2pts
6. Basingstoke Buffalo 2pts
7. Chelmsford Chieftains 2pts
8. Cardiff Fire 2s 2pts
9. Guildford 2pts
10. Bristol Pitbulls 2pts
11. Invicta 0pts
12. Lee Valley Lions 0pts
13. Slough Jets 0pts
14. Swindon Wildcats 2s 0pts

Huskies 2s have four wins from four and sit top of the division whilst Hornets have three wins from three and are close behind.  Cheiftains and Fire 2s both have 100% records have played only one game whilst Invicta, Lions, Jets and Wildcats 2s are all yet to win a game this season.

Lets look ahead to the weekend's fixtures:-
Saturday 7th October
Solent Devils Vs Lee Valley Lions
Invicta Vs Swindon Wildcats 2s
Haringey Huskies 2s Vs Peterborough Phantoms 2s
Slough Jets Vs Guildford

Sunday 8th October
Guildford Vs Basingstoke Buffalo
Bracknell Hornets Vs Haringey Huskies 2s
Chelmsford Chieftains Vs Invicta

Leaders Huskies 2s have two very tough games this weekend, hosting third placed Phantoms 2s before travelling to 2nd placed Hornets on Sunday.  Fire 2s have the weekend off whilst the other 100% side Chieftains host 0% Invicta at Riverside on Sunday evening.  Jets, Lions and Wildcats 2 are all also looking to bag a first win of the campaign this weekend too.

I'll be back next week with a look back at this weekend's fixtures.  Enjoy it whatever you may do!!!
